It was a great morning taking some not so typical head shots for fellow photographer, Laura Taylor, of Laura Taylor Photography here in Calgary. We walked around Kensington and found some wonderful places to shoot. Special thanks to the Prohibition Freehouse Bar and Raw Eatery & Market for letting us use your beautiful spaces.
AMELIA- Waterton Maternity Photos
Check out this fabulous Waterton maternity session. Waterton is so lovely, it could not have been more perfect for this maternity session! We may have had a couple run ins with the wildlife (mountain goats, coyote, BEAR), but thankfully we were safe. The animals were just giving us a show haha!
Amelia was 32 1/2 weeks for her maternity session (with baby number 6, I might add!!) and wasn’t sure what to wear. I knew if we were shooting in Waterton it had to be something out of the ordinary. Thank goodness for wonderful photographer friends who let me borrow their props and clothes. Thanks Laura! The maternity dresses looked amazing on Amelia and they were absolutely wonderful for this Waterton maternity session!!
I asked Amelia “what’s one piece of advice you’d give to other expecting moms for their session?” and this is what she had to say… “Relax and enjoy! Trust Alysha because she knows what she’s doing and know what looks good. Give yourself and your posing over to to her 🙂 She will make great things happen.” Thanks for that, Amelia, and I agree with her! First of all, relax and enjoy it!!! I don’t want your session to be stressful! And I want you to be able to have fun. When you’re able to relax it shows in the photos and you’ll love them that much more. Second, whether it be a maternity or family session or whatever, I will do my best to find the best lighting and the best angles for you. I want you to feel beautiful, because you are!
It just so happens that I was lucky enough to find out what Amelia and her husband will be naming their little man, but I’ll let her share that when the time comes. I do want to share something else she said about his name, which I thought was the sweetest! Amelia said she thinks his middle name will be Justin, after his dad. “His dad is an incredible man and he would be lucky to have his name! I hope he is just like him.” How sweet is that! I’m so excited for you, Amelia, and cannot wait to meet baby #6!
MURPHY FAMILY
I feel like it’s a mad rush to get fall family photos done in Calgary. The trees start to change color and then all of a sudden all the leaves are gone and everything is dead. Sadly we missed the beautiful, vibrant colors of fall, but I still love the look of the tall wheat like grass. I met the Murphy family down at Fish Creek Park near Cranston. Did anyone else not know how HUGE Fish Creek Park is?? I have lived in Calgary longer than I’d like to admit (I don’t want to age myself 😉 ), and I had absolutely NO idea how far this park extended!! And it’s beautiful down there! Add a beautiful family and the photo session was magic!
I’ve photographed the Murphy family since 2012 and thankfully the weather held and there was no snow for our session (unlike the first time I ever photographed them SO COLD!) . I love that they are used to my quirkiness and weird tricks to get natural smiles. They know it’s coming, they laugh along with me, and I love it! It’s so great to hear how the family is doing, and the exciting things they are up to. And let’s not forget how awesome Mom had everyone looking (check out mom’s sweet shoes!).
SCOTLAND
I know I’ve said I don’t normally do this, but after much debate, I have slowly started taking on lifestyle newborn sessions. And I’m loving them! This particular session is of my new niece, Scotland. She was born on September 30th weighing in at 4 pounds 14 ounces!! Sooooooo teeny tiny!! I have been to the birth of most of my nieces and nephews, but sadly for Scottie’s birth my kids and I were sick and there was no way I was going anywhere near a baby or hospital then. It broke my heart! Thankfully I was able to do maternity photos (you can check those out here) before Scotland arrived, and then these newborn photos of her and my sister, Katelyn. I still can’t get over how tiny she was!! I loved being able to snuggle her and capture her little yawn, tiny toes, and her with her mom. I think Katelyn looks beautiful and I love her and Scottie together. They’re just so sweet. I am starting to enjoy newborn photos, done a little different 😉 So, here’s Scottie at just 11 days new!
GORDON FAMILY
Meet the wonderful Gordon family! I felt honored that they would make the long drive from Edmonton so that I could photograph their family. Thanks, you guys! We had a lot of fun and dad was making a lot of ridiculous faces to get the kids to smile. It’s not always easy to get natural smiles out of teenage boys (I know, I have one haha!) but dad had everyone in smiling. It was all behind my back, so I’m still a little nervous as to what was really going on, but regardless, it was worth it! Thanks for the wonderful morning, Gordon family! And if you’re wondering, yes, this is Confederation Park. I love this little spot. It’s so lovely.
I am ecstatic to see this photo of the Gordon family on a 30×40″ canvas that they’ve ordered!! I think this image was my favorite family shot from their session and turns out it was theirs too! Can’t wait to see it up on their wall. I absolutely LOVE it when not only do clients get their photos printed but go BIG! Print your photos people!! There’s something about seeing your family photos printed and not on a computer. Hang them on your walls. Print them and put them in an old school photo album. Make a coffee table album (which I’m more than happy to help you with!). JUST PRINT THEM! 🙂 If you’re interested in family photos shoot me an email, I’m now booking for spring 2017
