It was a great morning taking some not so typical head shots for fellow photographer, Laura Taylor, of Laura Taylor Photography here in Calgary. We walked around Kensington and found some wonderful places to shoot. Special thanks to the Prohibition Freehouse Bar and Raw Eatery & Market for letting us use your beautiful spaces.
JAYDEN – Grad Banquet
Grad! or prom as it’s called for our southern friends đ Â has long since come and gone!! My website was under construction and it was killing me to wait so long to post these! BUT I’m glad the new site looks SO much better đ
I can’t believe that we’ve made it through another school year and another one has started. I had the privilege of photographing Jayden for her senior photos back in June (you can check those out here, and then also for her grad/prom photos before she took off to party like it’s 1999! hahah I’m such a nerd. I couldn’t resist! This year was the last of the ’90’s kids to graduate!! Man that makes me feel old. I graduated in 1999!! Ahhh! Isn’t it amazing how fast time flies!? Makes me want to dig out my grad photos…
Anyways, Jayden looked absolutely stunning in her dress. She ordered it off of PromGirl and I’m amazed that all she needed for altering was the length! It was perfect on her! Her hair looked incredible! I loved how it was perfectly imperfect. I love doing make up and she trusted me to do hers for the banquet (no pressure, right?).
Her boyfriend, who is super sweet, had flown in all the way from Minnesota to be there for her graduation. They looked absolutely adorable together and it sounds like they had a great time at the banquet. We were able to grab a few photos with mom and dad before they headed down to the banquet. I’m glad her parents were able to be in on some of the pictures, it’s just as important to them as it was her. Â Congrats Jayden and I wish you all the best as you start your new journey at Brigham Young University!

JAYDEN – Grad 2017
It was an absolute pleasure taking grad photos for this beautiful girl. Today I’d like to you meet Jayden. Smart, talented and kind are just a few of the words that come to mind when I think about this young woman. Jayden is a senior at Robert Thirsk High School. She used to be a competitive dancer, and she loves to ski, go on hikes, and read.
I have to mention that I am SO happy the schools have started to let the kids have their cap and gown a couple days before the grad ceremonies. I loved that we were able to use them in her photo shoot. When I was graduating (way back in the day), they let us pick up our gown about an hour before the ceremony started and then we had to turn them in as soon as it was over. It didn’t leave much time for photos with them. Glad that has changed!!
I asked Jayden whether she had any advice to offer others who were getting ready to take senior pictures. This is what she had to share:
âJust have fun while having your pictures taken because some of the best pictures are the ones where you’re laughing or being yourself! Don’t stress and have fun with it,â Jayden said.
After high school, Jayden will be attending Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo and taking a Bachelor of Science in Neurology. That’s pretty impressive!!
Jayden’s younger sister came along to the shoot, so we snuck a few photos of the two of them together. I’m so happy she came along as I think they will treasure these for years to come!
Best of luck to you, Jayden. I know you’ll do wonderful things!
AMELIA- Waterton Maternity Photos
Check out this fabulous Waterton maternity session. Waterton is so lovely, it could not have been more perfect for this maternity session! We may have had a couple run ins with the wildlife (mountain goats, coyote, BEAR), but thankfully we were safe. The animals were just giving us a show haha!
Amelia was 32 1/2 weeks for her maternity session (with baby number 6, I might add!!)Â and wasn’t sure what to wear. I knew if we were shooting in Waterton it had to be something out of the ordinary. Thank goodness for wonderful photographer friends who let me borrow their props and clothes. Thanks Laura! The maternity dresses looked amazing on Amelia and they were absolutely wonderful for this Waterton maternity session!!
I asked Amelia “what’s one piece of advice you’d give to other expecting moms for their session?” and this is what she had to say… “Relax and enjoy! Trust Alysha because she knows what she’s doing and know what looks good. Give yourself and your posing over to to her đ She will make great things happen.” Thanks for that, Amelia, and I agree with her! Â First of all, relax and enjoy it!!! I don’t want your session to be stressful! And I want you to be able to have fun. When you’re able to relax it shows in the photos and you’ll love them that much more. Second, whether it be a maternity or family session or whatever, I will do my best to find the best lighting and the best angles for you. I want you to feel beautiful, because you are!
It just so happens that I was lucky enough to find out what Amelia and her husband will be naming their little man, but I’ll let her share that when the time comes. I do want to share something else she said about his name, which I thought was the sweetest! Amelia said she thinks his middle name will be Justin, after his dad. “His dad is an incredible man and he would be lucky to have his name! I hope he is just like him.” How sweet is that! I’m so excited for you, Amelia, and cannot wait to meet baby #6!
